For some players, collecting many individuals of a specific species of Pokémon is a goal. While the game has a forced limit on the number of a particular species of Pokémon that a player can catch, additional members of the species can be received through trading with another player or the GTS, purchasing from the Black Market, or evolving or devolving another Pokémon. This article documents the Pokémon that various players collect.
As of right now, by collecting either 50 of the same species of Pokémon in Gen V or Gen VI, OR by collecting 80 of the same species across Gens V and VI, you will get a shiny variant of that species (with the form of your choosing) as a reward. Historically, MegaPod, Snivy, Quas, Zachie, and Herbie got Shiny Metapod, Weezing, Bulbasaur, Miltank, and Pichu, respectively, for collecting 50 of that species. Additionally, Quas received another Shiny Bulbasaur by collecting 100 of that species.
