These alternate colored Pokémon are a rarity among any particular species. It is unsure what causes these alternate colors to manifest in Pokémon - some people say it is due to premature evolution and others say it is a natural mutation.

ζ-Rift Pokémon

These mysterious Pokémon occasionally appear from a portal to a parallel word, which we have dubbed the ζ-Realm. The rate at which these portals, or ζ-Rifts, appear is about half that of a shiny Pokémon appearing. Not much else is currently known about them, though, interestingly enough, they are catchable even if you don't have a Cordaball in your bag.
